For hundreds of years after the exile, Israel had no king. Prophets dated their writings by foreign rulers because the throne of David was vacant. Then Zechariah told a kingless people to rejoice greatly — because a king was coming. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, He wasn't performing a quaint tradition. Practical ways to apply this message to your life.

• The next time someone tells you that Christians are forcing Jesus into Old Testament prophecies, don't panic. Walk them from Genesis 49 to Ezekiel 21 to Zechariah 9 and show them the thread. The Bible built its own case centuries before Jesus was born. Know your Old Testament — your faith has roots deeper than you realize.
• Ask yourself honestly this week: Is Jesus your King, or is He your butler? A butler waits in the margins until you ring the bell. A king commands your schedule, your ambitions, your money, your relationships. If you've been treating the Lord of the universe like room service, repent — and discover that the joy Zechariah promised only comes when the crown is on His head, not yours.
• You have the completed Scriptures. The prophets would have given anything for what sits on your nightstand collecting dust. Open it. Compare passage with passage. Let your heart burn the way the disciples' hearts burned on the road to Emmaus. Revival in this nation will not come through better programs — it will come through churches that read, believe, and preach this Book.
• If your joy has gone flat — if following Christ feels like obligation rather than celebration — trace it back. What other throne caught your eye? What sparkling crown promised you protection or pleasure? Name it. Then look again at the King who extends His scepter so you can approach Him freely at three in the morning. No appointment needed. No waiting room. He is better.
• When you gather with your church this Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday, don't sleepwalk through it. Remember that what you are celebrating is not tradition — it is the hinge of human history. A King who was promised for millennia actually came, actually died, actually rose. Let that land fresh on your heart as though you are hearing it for the first time.
